Iranian director Majid Majidi will be honored by the 31st Starz Denver International Film Festival (SDIFF), which will take place from November 13 to 23.

Majidi is scheduled to receive the annual Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper after a screening of Majidi’s "Children of Heaven" at 9 pm on Friday, November 14.

The film will be screened at the Starz Film Center, 900 Auraria Parkway at 9th Street on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver.

The only Iranian film ever to receive an Oscar nomination, "Children of Heaven" is about Ali, his little sister Zahra, who live along with their parents in a poor urban neighborhood.

His latest film "The Song of Sparrows", a bittersweet parable about the struggles of a family living in a rural area outside Tehran, will also be screened during the festival, a Tehran Times report said.

The film is representing Iran at the 81st Annual Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Films category.

Actor Morgan Freeman and director Francis Ford Coppola are among the figures who have previously received SDIFF Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award over the past years.
