West trying to cover up Gaddafi ties

iranian lawmaker zohreh elahian

An Iranian lawmaker says the West killed former Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi in the hopes of hiding the cooperation of Western intelligence agencies, especially the CIA, with him.

”[Gaddafi’s] Cooperation and ties with European countries led to violation of the Libyan people’s rights and created an atmosphere of repression which was the outcome of the support of Western states and US for this dictator,”‌ Fars News Agency quoted Zohreh Elahian on Friday.

The lawmaker, who is member of Iran Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, added that arresting and trying Gaddafi would have provided an opportunity to shed light on his ties with Western leaders and the CIA as well as Imam Mousa Sadr’s case.

”Under the pretext of defeating Gaddafi and supporting Libyans, the US and NATO have tried to secure their military presence in Libya and use it to destroy Libya’s infrastructure,”‌ she said.

Elahian said that destroying Libya’s infrastructure is a US and NATO plot to help plunder Libyan resources under pretext of rebuilding the country.

Libya’s interim Prime Minister Mahmud Jibril confirmed yesterday the death of Gaddafi, saying he had been shot in the head after being caught in crossfire. The 69-year-old dictator was found in a sewage pipe on the outskirts of his northern hometown of Sirte.

Gaddafi is the first dictator to be killed in the wave of the popular uprisings and revolutions, which are sweeping through North Africa and the Middle East.
