Iran wins Asian Cup Volleyball Championship

Iran was too strong for China in the final match of the 2nd Asian Men’s Cup Volleyball Championship here on Saturday.

Iran swept China 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) in front of cheering fans at the packed Al-Ghadir Hall. The Persians had already defeated China 3-2 in the group stage.

“As I’ve already said I must praise our fans who supported us during the competition. They enhanced our readiness from 80 percent to 100 percent. They were the real champion,” Iran coach Hossein Madani said.

“Iran will take part in more preparatory matches like the Austria four-a-side tournament . We will probably have some changes in our lineup for the Asian Games,” he added.

India defeated Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the third-place match.

A total of eight Asian teams took part in the competition.

Iran won the first edition of the Asian Men’s Cup Volleyball Championship by beating South Korea in the final game in Thailand in September 2008
