Persian and Turkmen literature week underway in Ashgabat

An Iranian cultural delegation is attending programs arranged in Ashgabat on Persian and Turkmen literature week, which opened on June 28.

The group includes 11 Iranian writers, poets and scholars among whom are Erfan Nazar-Ahari, Laleh Jafari, Reza Amirkhani and Ebrahim Hassan-Beigi.

The delegation met with Turkmen writers and scholars at the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan on Thursday.

Yusuf Qurban, deputy director of the academy expressed his pleasure over the visit of the Iranian delegation and hoped that the cordial bilateral relations between the two countries would continue into the future and this delegation would help to strengthen this relationship.

Iran’s cultural attaché in Turkmenistan Mostafa Naseri next talked about the Iranian writers attending the program and said that they represent a living treasury of Iranian contemporary literature, with 244 books to their credit so far.

Head of the Literature Department of the academy Qizilgul Kiyasu also present at the ceremony expressed her pleasure over the visiting Iranian female writers and asked for increased cultural exchange between the two countries.

Turkmen writers, researchers, and literary figures next talked about their opinions about Iranian contemporary literature and the historical and cultural commonalties between Iran and Turkmenistan.

Afterwards, the Iranian delegation also visited the library of the academy and held talks with the head of the library.

They have so far visited several cultural and historical sites in Turkmenistan.
