Aref Qazvini

Abolqassem Aref Qazvini (Persian: ابوالقاسم‌ عارف قزوینی , 1882 in Qazvin, Iran – January 21, 1934 in Hamadan, Iran) was an Iranian poet, lyricist, and musician.

Son of Molla Hadi Vakil Qazvini, he composed many poems about Iran and was called a national poet. Along with his powerful poetry, he also wrote lyrics for numerous songs and played music. He was a revolutionary during the Iranian Constitutional Revolution and made many political and pro-revolutionary songs. He moved to Hamadan later in his life and died there in January 1934 at the age of 52.

In the early years of World War I, Aref immigrated to Istanbul and continued his activities there. He wrote both the music and the lyrics for all of his songs, many of which were arranged for orchestra by other Persian composers, including Rouhollah Khaleghi. His songs have been in the standard repertoire of such great Persian singers as Qolamhossein Banan.


He was a powerful poet in compose beautiful poems. He went to Hamadan in the end of his life & at last was died in this city in 1933. After his death the his complete works were published in Berlin & Tehran in 1911.
