The Sufferings of Imam Ali after the Prophet's demise: Battle of the Camel

imam ali

Those who had swore their allegiance to me with their free will (Talhe and Zobayr) when they didn’t achieve their goals which was becoming the governors of two great cities in Iraq, they began to conspire with Ayesha against me. Even though they knew that after the Prophet, the one who had to have the responsibility of protecting that woman was only me.

But these two men forced Ayesha to sit on a camel and traveled on the desert until they reached to Hao wab. And after the dogs of that place roared against Ayesha, the signs of repentance appeared finally on their faces.

They had sworn allegiance to me, before the death of the Prophet, and also after his death, but what a wicked deed they committed: I mean when they were against me.

They came to Bassora, and were united with the people who had small hands, long beards, slothful beliefs, and false deeds: those who were sailors or desert dwellers [I mean the Egyptians].... That woman, Ayesha, had called them from their cities, and they showed their naked blades and then they fell into the deep sea of war.

On that occasion I had to choose one of the two unwilling ways opened to me: I could let them go away, but this made them continue their false path, and they would never return to the right way again or standing against them, but this one other way, created a bad ending for them, one that I didn’t wish for them.

So, before starting the battle, I reminded them of everything, and told them about the harsh and hard punishment of God, and I ended my argument and proposed them a way to come to peace with me and accept their mistakes. I offered to that woman to return to her house, and I wanted from the people around her not to break their allegiance with me, with God being our witness.

God be witness of my works on those days!  I did everything, I even talked privately to their leaders to persuade them not to start a war and Zobayr accepted my words. I repeated my discourse to the others, but they just showed me their enmity and foolishness.

So when they insisted for the war, I had no way but just to sit on my horse and the result of their deeds was nothing but defeat, jealousy and violent death….

Yes, I had no way not to fight them, but at the end of the battle, I forgave them and didn’t kill them. But before the war, I couldn’t forgive them, because I knew that they will kill innocent people, and try to spread dissension all over the country, and my forgiveness would be a great help against their hellish plans. And I also didn’t want to accept the authority of that woman, because in many ways, such as in testimony and the inheritance cases, the rights of man and woman are different, and choosing a woman as a governor, was a false act that old nations such as the Romans or those who had lived in the lands of Queen Sheeba, had once done wrongfully.

On the other hand, I had to stand for a battle that I didn’t like, not its beginning nor its ending! And I just let that woman gather a troop and do everything in her power to destroy my army at a short time. But it was not me who had started the war; I myself did many things to stop the war: I delayed the moment of the battle , I negotiated in many ways , I sent many ambassadors , I also offered them many things that they even didn’t think about them, and I almost even forgave them.

But they just wanted the war and nothing else, and I had to fight with them, and I did according to the will of God, and God Almighty is my Witness.

The Jewish man was crying now, and at the same time, he remembered the war that Safora (the wife of Moses) had started Joshua with (the successor of Moses), so he was deeply sad for Ali.
