El Baradei: Iran war equals ME fireball

The IAEA chief Mohamed El Baradei says any attack on Iran over its nuclear program will turn the Middle East region into a "fireball."

In remarks aired on Al-Arabiya television on Friday, El Baradei also said that if there was a military strike on Iran he would resign.

"What I see in Iran today is a current, grave and urgent danger. If a military strike is carried out against Iran at this time ... it would make me unable to continue my work," he added.
"A military strike, in my opinion, would be worse than anything possible. It would turn the region into a fireball," he added.
"If you do a military strike, it will mean that Iran, if it is not already making nuclear weapons, will launch a crash course to build nuclear weapons with the blessing of all Iranians, even those in the West."

Tehran has repeatedly declared that it pursues no plans to develop a military nuclear program and the only thing it wants is to enjoy its legitimate rights in the framework of the IAEA and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
