Abdullah ibn Ubayy

Abdullah ibn Ubayy was a leader of Madina's hypocrites and pagans (munafiqun). He pretended to be with Muslims but was never on their side. He had secretly hated the Prophet Muhammad since the time of the Hijrah. He dreamt of becoming the ruler of Madinah and saw the prophet's growing popularity and strength as a threat.

Therefore, he worked him and the interests of the Muslim.

He plotted against the Muslims with various Quraysh leaders and Jewish tribes like the Banu Nadir. It was his treachery which was mainly responsible for the defeat of the Muslims at the battle of Uhad. At the last moment, he turned back from the battleground along with his 300 men. He also played a major role in spreading lies about the Prophet's wife, Aishah.
