William Chittick

William C. Chittick was born inConnecticut, finished his BA at the College of Wooster in Ohio, and completed a Ph.D. in Persian literature atTehranUniversity in 1974.
He taught comparative religion in the humanities department at Tehran's Aryamehr Technical University and left Iran just before the revolution in 1979. For three years he was assistant editor at the Encyclopaedia Iranica, and from 1983 he has taught religious studies at the State University of New York, Stony Brook.
