Anthony Hope
Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins (better known as
Anthony Hope )was a British novelist, best remembered today for his short novelThe Prisoner of Zenda (1894), sometimes deemed the first adventure novel, and its sequelsThe Heart of the Princess Osra (a collection of short stories set in the fictional kingdom of Ruritania, 1896) andRupert of Hentzau. Hope also wrote many other novels and plays. He was knighted in recognition of his contribution to British propaganda efforts during World War I.
