Bahrain, new Islamic liquidity centre

Bahrain has officially launched its new USD20m Liquity Management Centre to provide short and medium term Islamic liquidity instruments for financial institutions. The LMC will facilitate the creation of an inter-bank money market to allow Islamic financial institutions to manage their assets and liabilities, said officials.

Cama key figure in HSBC Islamic banking set-up

HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd deputy chairman and chief executive officer Zarir J. Cama can be best described as one of the key figures in the setting up of HSBC Group's global Islamic banking services. HSBC unit Amanah Finance is the global entity for the group's Islamic banking services. Set up inBritain in 1998, the unit is now gradually managing the group's Islamic operations from Dubai.  It currently has a large presence in Dubai, Riyadh, London, New York and Kuala Lumpur, and is well-positioned to understand, structure and deliver Islamic solutions and provide globally “unrivalled'' products.

Morocco: King’s Award goes to Prof. Lahbaby

Rabat,

The   0 for Islamic Thought and Studies, for the year 1424 AH, has gone to a Moroccan professor. His name is Prof. Ahmed Lahbaby, and it was handed to him at a function held at the Hassan II Main Mosque inCasablanca. The Award has been given to him for his service to Islamic culture, and for the many books that he had written on this aspect. Next year’s topic would be “Dialogue in the Holy Qur’an,” and topics and methods related to it.
