US to blame for Korean tensions: Iran cmdr.
The Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces says the United States is to blame for the escalating tensions in the Korean Peninsula.
“Hegemonic and bullying powers are triggering tensions and crises regionally and globally, and in the case of Korean tensions, the blame is on the United States,” Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri said on Tuesday.
The general went on to say that it is North Korea’s undeniable right to develop its defensive capabilities, as the country is constantly under threat and coercion from the US and its allies.
He added that the US presence in the region is the root cause of tensions between the North and South Korea.
Jazayeri stressed that the US aims to take advantage of the situation it has created in the region and add more soldiers to its tens of thousands of troops already stationed in South Korea and Japan.
The Iranian commander also warned Japan and South Korea of instability in the region due to the tensions and urged Tokyo and Seoul to reconsider their US-dictated policies.
War of words between two Koreas escalated after the participation of the United States’ nuclear-capable B-52s and B-2 stealth bombers in its joint military drills with South Korea.
North Korea on Friday moved a second medium-range missile to its eastern coast, one day after it deployed a Musudan to the same coast, with the missile reportedly facing Japan.
With an intended range of about 3,000 kilometers, the Musudan is believed to be theoretically capable of hitting any target in Japan and South Korea, and even reach US military bases on the Pacific island of Guam.
