Attention to public demand best solution to Bahrain crisis: Iran official
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Amir-Abdollahian has called on Manama to take heed of the popular demands as the best solution to resolve the crisis in Bahrain.
“The most appropriate solution for Bahrain is to pay serious attention to the popular demands and to put an end to the suppressions in the country,” Amir-Abdollahian said on Friday.
The Bahraini government should seriously consider preparing the proper grounds for entering effective dialogues, he added.
The Iranian top diplomat described the situation in Bahrain as “perilous” and “a threat to regional security” and called for an end to the foreign military intervention in Bahrain and the blatant violation of human rights in the Persian Gulf sheikhdom.
The remarks come against the backdrop of the surging popular protests in Bahrain which call for an end to the oppression of the Al Khalifa regime.
Meanwhile, the anti-regime protesters demand the cancellation of the Formula One Grand Prix which is slated to start on April 22 in Bahrain.
Bahrainis and many activists around the world condemn the franchise to hold the race despite the ongoing crackdown against peaceful demonstrators in the Persian Gulf nation.
The outraged Bahraini public believes the event is being used by the Al Khalifa regime to portray a normal picture of the state of affairs on the ground in the sheikdom, which has been witnessing anti-regime rallies since February 2011.
On Thursday and Friday, dozens of people were injured during clashes that occurred in several villages between anti-government protesters and government forces ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix event.
Last year, Formula One’s governing body cancelled the race in Bahrain over the nationwide anti-government protests.
Scores of people have been killed and many others have been injured in the Al Khalifa regime attacks on Bahraini protesters.
