protesters shout slogans as they burn a us flag during an anti-america protest after the friday prayers in istanbul on december 2, 2011.

Hundreds of people have gathered in the Turkish city of Istanbul to voice their anger at US and British efforts to impose more sanctions on Iran.

According to Press TV, the protest rally on Friday came as US Vice President Joe Biden is in the country to press Turkish leaders to join the US-backed sanctions against Iran over its nuclear energy program.

Burning US and British flags, the demonstrators also condemned the two countries' role in the war in Afghanistan. They also condemned Biden’s visit.

Biden has met with Turkish President Abdullah Gul and parliament speaker Cemil Cicek in Ankara and discussed regional events including Syria unrest, Iran sanctions and the situation of Iraq after the withdrawal of American troops.

Turkey, which has strong cultural and trade ties with Iran, has been traditionally against Tehran sanctions.
