Gaza attacks show Israel desperation: Salehi

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Ali Akbar Salehi has condemned the recent Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, saying such assaults illustrate the desperation and frustration of the Zionist regime.

Speaking in a meeting with senior Hamas official Mahmoud al-Zahar on Thursday, Salehi said supporting the Palestinians and their cause is a principal obligation for the Muslims, adding, “We are confident that the Palestinians will triumph.”‌

The Iranian foreign minister went on to reaffirm Tehran’s all-out support for the Palestinian nation, saying the Islamic Awakening and recent developments in the Middle East and North Africa herald the collapse of the Zionist front.

For his part, al-Zahar thanked Iran for its relentless support of the Palestinians, stressing that the Islamic Resistance will spare no efforts in its pursuit of the Palestinian cause.

Al-Zahar had earlier met with Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, where the Iranian official said the continuous reinforcement of resistance would provide Palestinians with an indispensable means to stand up against Israel’s hostile policies.

The Palestinian official also met with the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, on Wednesday.

Israel has initiated a fresh round of airstrikes on the Palestinians since March 9, killing more than 25 Gazans, including children and women, and wounding dozens of others.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blatantly said on Sunday that the Tel Aviv regime will continue airstrikes against Gaza "as long as necessary.”‌

China, Turkey, Iran, Jordan and the Arab League have condemned the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Israel imposed a war on the Gaza Strip in December 2008-January 2009. More than 1,400 Palestinians were killed in the conflict.
