MKO terrorists must leave Iraq

head of the islamic supreme council of iraq ammar al-hakim

The head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq says the MKO terrorists in Iraq must immediately leave the country due to their criminal records.

According to IRNA, Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim said during a visit to the seminary in the holy Iranian city of Qom on Friday that: ”With their terrorist activities, the MKO has betrayed the Islamic Republic of Iran and other countries and they have no chance to stay in Iraq."

The Iraqi official added: ”Whichever one of the MKO terrorists that wants to, can return to their country and Iran has said that 100 of these MKO terrorists have open cases and will have to stand trial upon return.”‌

The MKO is blacklisted as a terrorist organization by Tehran and much of the international community, and is held responsible for numerous acts of terror against Iranian civilians and government officials.

The notorious group fled to Iraq in 1986, where it enjoyed the support of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s regime and set up Camp Ashraf, about 120 kilometers (74.5 miles) west of the Iranian border.

The terrorist group is also known to have cooperated with Saddam in suppressing the 1991 uprisings in southern Iraq and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds in the country’s north.

During his Thursday meeting with Iran’s senior religious scholars, Hakim also addressed the issue of the US withdrawal from Iraq by the end of the year, vowing that the Iraqis ”will not allow any of them to stay in the country”‌ beyond the agreed deadline.
