Iranian lifter wins gold in Malaysia

Iranian weightlifter Kianoush Rostami has won the gold medal in the men’s 85kg category of the World Junior Weightlifting Championships, which are currently underway in Penang, Malaysia.

The Iranian athlete won the silver medal in the snatch by lifting 168 kilograms. However, he got the gold medal in the clean and jerk after he managed to hoist 210 kilograms.

Rostami was crowned as the weightlifting champion in the men’s 85kg category of the event on Monday after lifting a total of 378 kilograms.

Iran’s Jaber Behrouzi won the bronze medal in the men’s 69kg category of the event on Saturday.

Jaber Behrouzi hoisted 134 kilograms in the snatch and 169 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total of 303 kilograms.

On Thursday, another Iranian weightlifter, Majid Askari, claimed the silver medal in the men’s 56kg category. He lifted 123 kilograms in the snatch and 150 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total of 273 kilograms.

The 37th Men’s and 17th Women’s World Junior Weightlifting Championships have brought more than 300 weightlifters from 76 countries together at the Penang International Sports Arena (PISA) in northwestern Malaysia.

The weightlifting championship opened on June 26 and runs until July 7.
