Iran’s non-oil exports up by 32%
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s non-oil exports have increased by well over 30 percent in the first two months of the new Persian calendar year, says an Iranian trade official.
“Iran’s non-petroleum exports witnessed a 32 percent growth in the first two months of the current [Iranian] year (March 21, 2011-March 20, 2012) compared to the similar period last year,” Fathollah Kermanshahi, an official with the Iranian Trade Promotion Organization, was quoted by IRNA as saying on Sunday.
He said non-oil commodities account for USD 26.5 billion of the USD 40 billion worth of goods that Iran exported in the year ending March 20, 2011.
Kermanshahi expressed hope the figure could reach USD 45 billion by March 2012 as domestic exports grow.
“USD 60 billion [worth of commodities] were imported into the country through customs,” he further explained.
Head of Iran’s Customs Administration Abbas Memarnejad announced recently that Western sanctions have had no bearing on the country’s trade growth.
Meanwhile, the managing director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRSL) said it has launched new shipping routes for eastern Africa despite the imposition of fresh sanctions against Iran.
Muhammad Hussein Dajmar said the IRISL fleet comprising of 165 ships transferred 35 million tons of goods last year.
