city under siege

A New English version of “A City under Siege” will be released by Sureh-Mehr, a publishing company affiliated with Iran’s Art Bureau, in the near future.

A previous version of the book was published by Mazda Publications in the United States in April 2010.

Written by Habib Ahmadzadeh, the collection of short stories on the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war and its aftermath has been translated into English by U.S. scholar Paul Sprachman.

“Eagle Feather”, “The Airplane”, “An Umbrella for the Director”, “Thirty-Nine Plus One Prisoners”, “The Fleeing of the Warrior”, “A Letter to the Family Saad”, and “If There Were No Darya Qoli” are among the short stories in the book.

This is the second work by Ahmadzadeh to appear in English translation. The first was the novel “Chess with the Doomsday Machine”.

Ahmadzadeh is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war. He has studied theater arts and is an accomplished scenarist.
