Brazil 3 - 0 Chile

world cup 2010: brazil vs. chile

Brazil has defeated Chile with a convincing 3-0 performance in a World Cup Round of 16 match.

Brazil’s first-half goals by centre-back Juan and striker Luis Fabiano gave coach Dunga’s team a 2-0 lead before Robinho ensured their quarter-final appearance with the third goal after an hour at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Monday.

Brazil took the lead on 35 minutes when Maicon swung in a corner and Roma defender Juan rose the highest to head past goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Luis Fabiano made it 2-0 three minutes later after Kaka took a pass from Robinho on the left wing and slid the ball through.

Brazil got their third goal when Benfica’s Ramires ran from the midfield line to the edge of the penalty area, where he laid the ball off for Robinho to fire home on 59 minutes.

The Chileans made a good start and kept fighting but were unable to dig themselves out of a three-goal deficit.

It was Brazil’s 47th win in 66 matches against Chile, which has only seven wins.

In the quarter-finals, Brazil will face the Netherlands, which saw off Slovakia 2-1 in Port Elizabeth earlier on Monday.
