Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has met with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on the eve of the G15 summit in Tehran.

Lula da Silva held talks with Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei after arriving in Tehran early on Monday to attend the 14th Summit of the Group of 15 developing countries, which will officially kick off on Monday.

The summit draws world leaders and senior figures to Tehran to discuss a wide range of international issues, most importantly further development in the energy, security and environmental sectors.

Established in September 1989 during the ninth Non-Aligned Movement conference in Belgrade, the Group of 15 aims to promote economic cooperation and provide input for other international groups.

Iran is the current chairman of the bloc but is expected to pass the baton to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa this year.
