Iran is to unveil a new tooth-filling material in the course of the 50th international conference of the country's dental association in Tehran.

The new material, called CEM cement (calcium enriched material) will be introduced at Tehran's Milad Tower during the May 11 conference.

The material with its original formulation will be established globaly as a new generation of tooth-filling materials; Fars News quoted Sa'id Asgari, a faculty member of Shahid Beheshti University and the creator of CEM cement as saying on Monday.

Asgari, who has already patented the material with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), says CEM cement was originally produced on a laboratory scale in 2007 but will soon be available commercially.

The new material will be used in several types of dental procedures.

It is able to produce Hydroxyapatite, a major component and an essential ingredient of normal bone and teeth, has anti-germ properties and is also moisture resistant.

The four-day dental convention will commence tomorrow.
