Taking Tehran’s Research Reactor a Political Issue, not for US Good

mottaki

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Sunday that considering Tehran’s Research Reactor as a political issue would not serve the US benefits.

He made the remarks during a press conference held at the end of the two-day International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation which ended in the Iranian capital on Sunday afternoon.

'The US knows that Tehran’s reactor is made for medical use,' Mottaki said, stressing that therefore, adopting a political view towards a “completely humanitarian issue” would not serve US benefits.

He expressed hope that Americans would pay due attention to the issue.

Mottaki further criticized US and West’s double standard policy towards nuclear activities of different states.

He said adopting a “discriminatory attitude” towards nuclear activities of different states as well as staying indifferent towards the issue of non-proliferation would cause problem for Western states, the US in particular which supports Israel’s nuclear activities and its atomic weapons on the one hand, and adopts an “unfair” attitude towards the NPT member states which were seeking nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, on the other.

The Iranian minister stressed that the Zionist regime should be forced to obey international laws and regulations for non-proliferation of nuclear arms as it has repeatedly been proved that Tel Aviv would defy international resolutions and conventions in this connection or violate them.

Mottaki also announced that the second International Conference on Disarmament and Non-proliferation would be held in Tehran next spring (April 2011).
