Spain hosts conference on Sa'di

A conference on renowned Persian poet Sa'di is scheduled to be held in Spain's Alicante University to commemorate the classic medieval figure.

Alicante University and Iranian cultural office in Spain plan to hold the conference on Persian poet Sa'di Shirazi Day, on April 22.

The national day of Sheikh Sa'di Shirazi, prominent classical medieval Persian poet, mystic and metaphysicist is commemorated annually on April 21.

Born in Shiraz in 1194 CE, Abu Muslih Abdullah Shirazi, better known by his penname Sa'di, is recognized as one of the most prominent figures among poets that enhanced interactions among cultures.

'Sa'di is recognized as one of the most eminent poets in the history of Persian literature,' Iran's cultural attaché Amir Pourpezeshk told .

Two of his famous works, Boustan and Golestan brilliantly reflect the experiences gathered during his extensive journeys (throughout the world),' he said.

'The two precious books have left humanitarian and spiritual traces throughout the world,' Pourpezeshk added.

Spanish scholars, Jose Francisco Cutillas Ferrer, professor at the University of Alicante in Arabic and Islamic Studies; and Joaquin Rodriguez Vargas, who translated Golestan into Spanish are slated to lecture about Sa'di.
