Cankaya University


Historical Background

After spending over forty years in the field of education, next to Arı Primary School and Arı High School, an investment in higher education and research as well became inevitable. This endeavor was realized through the collaboration and genuine contribution of all the teaching and administrative staff as well as the thousands of young people who have attended these schools and also their parents. In fact, this was the source of the motivation that led to the establishment of Çankaya University, the last link in our educational project. On 9 July 1997, Sıtkı Alp Education Foundation was ratified through the Turkish National Assembly decree number 4282 which was published in the Official News Paper number 23050, dated 15 July 1997. The official establishment of Çankaya University was finalised through the Higher Education Council decision number 16641, dated 27 August 1997, and the university commenced its functions in the autumn of the same year. In an age of competition when civilization and technology have reached their zenith, borders between nations have diminished and now are almost invisible. Each nation is trying to be a centre of excellence. Education, reliable and efficient education, is undoubtedly the basis for such excellence. With this goal in mind, a community of educators trained at academic institutions of high reputation all over the world have been set up. This goal is to train, the students ofÇankayaUniversity in the best way possible through well-developed curricula in various fields. This academic institution will also provide its graduates with a solidly founded future, where employment opportunities at large will be open. As the founders of the University, it is our sincere hope and desire to interact with all academic and administrative members as well as with the students as members of the same family, that is, Çankaya University. Art and Sciences


·        English Language and Literature

The Department of English Language and Literature was one of the first departments established atÇankaya University. The undergraduate curriculum in English Language and Literature has been designed in accordance with the contemporary developments in literary studies particularly in the Western World.

·        Economics        

Economics is a study area closely related to individual and social activities. As a living discipline, it calls for capturing the essence of the material aspects of human life. The changing and evolving nature of our dynamic community requires highly skilled learning so that the understanding of the complexities of economic problems can be achieved to a large extent. The principal aim of our department is to provide our students with the theory and knowledge at a satisfactory level to extend their views on major issues facing national and international economies.

The program is designed to prepare the students for the public sector as well as the private sector and for different careers requiring the use of analytical tools and creative skills. The courses in economics are supported by other fields such as mathematics, statistics, business, law, computers and relevant areas to build up a comprehensive perspective which may offer ability to deal with a variety of economic problems.

·        International Trade 

Since the 1980s, Turkey's foreign trade and investment activities have been expanding and becoming global. Turkey has added an impressive number of countries to its list of trading-partners while maintaining strong trade ties with its traditional ones. While Turkey herself is a significant emerging market, Turkish private capital and private business firms are increasingly active in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, North Africa, and other parts of the globe. One of the essential ingredients for the acquisition and maintenance of foreign markets for Turkish goods and services is the availability of qualified personnel in dealing with the legal, political, financial, economic, and cultural aspects of international trade. Thus, these circumstances call for education and training of a larger number of students in all aspects of international trade.


·        Management 

The department offers a four year intensive undergraduate program leading to a professional degree in management. The department also offers a graduate program in management integrated within theInstitute of Social Sciences leading to MSc and MBA degrees. The primary purpose of the undergraduate program is to develop the skills, capabilities, and competence of students to deal effectively with the challenges and opportunities of a continuously changing world. The successful prospective manager and his/her team should be able to handle the complexities of future developments in economic conditions in a fiercely competitive environment. Modern business education and training require students to learn the subject matter of the profession as well as to develop a broad vision and flexibility to adapt to new situations. With these aims in mind, the program focuses on analytical approaches and problem solving rather than on a mere narration of current and past practices.


·        Politicial Science and International Relations

The Department of Political Science and International Relations offers an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Political Science and International Relations. Our educational philosophy is to provide students with adequate analytical skills and to maximize their ability to think, criticize and assess alternative points of view as well as enhancing their understanding of the dynamics of domestic and international political events. The Program aims at preparing students for a variety of career options, including, diplomatic service, public and private institutions, media, academia, research institutions and international organizations. After the second year, students are encouraged to specialize various sub fields depending upon career paths they have chosen. The Department offers courses which aim to prepare students for public service particularly the Foreign Ministry. The Department also encourages the development of language and computer skills of students.

Engineering and Architecture        

·        Computer Engineering  

The Department of Computer Engineering provides a programme to develop the required skills and competence to design and implement computer systems and networks. The core courses of the computer engineering curriculum lay the foundation necessary for all computer engineers. A set of elective courses allows the students to specialized in areas of their choice.

·        Electronic and Communication Engineering        

Electronic and Communication Engineers many of these things couldn’t have been realized. Works would take much longer time, and cost more. Electronic and Communication Engineers design stereo, computer, remote control systems, microwave oven, and anything which uses electricity or electronics.

Electronic and Communication Engineers also contribute to the field of communications. For example fiber-optic communication, satellite T.V. systems, mobile phones, and other technical systems which transfer information from one place to other. In addition, control systems are developed by Electronic and Communication Engineers. For example, control systems for production of chemical substance and medicine, guiding planes and rockets, and for the production of the many other substances. These substances have been produced with very high precision and speed. Furthermore Electronic and Communication Engineers also design microelectronic components.

·        Industrial Engineering        

·        Interior Architecture

Interior architecture as a branch of the architectural profession deals with the design of enclosed spaces of buildings which form the immediate human environment. Education to this end furnishes the student not only with technical knowledge but also with aesthetic values to cope with the physical and emotional needs of the user.

To fulfil these needs, the interior architect has to develop an understanding and appreciation of technical, social, and economical problems involved. While in the theoretical courses appropriate knowledge is provided, the studio work will help to develop creativity as the major factor in the design process.
