UNESCO Day of Philosophy 2003

This year, the Sector of Social and Human Sciences at UNESCO will be organizing the second Philosophy Day, which will be celebrated on 20 November 2003.  UNESCO be organizing activities at Headquarters, as well as to coordinate events in the field.
Activities at Headquarters include philosophical debates, exhibitions and round tables. The themes of the round tables cover the notions of human rights, reconciliation, contemporary world problems, cultural diversity, as well as many others. I attach the programme for this year, as well as the report from last year outlining some of the major events which took place in the world.
In the evening, there will be a jazz concert with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, preceded by a philosophical debate on music.
Further to this activity, UNESCO is developing a strategy on philosophy, launching a programme on philosophical dialogues in the Arab and Asian worlds, supporting Philosophy UNESCO Chairs, as well as other activities.
