Some Basic Steps to Get Rid of Sleepiness?
Some people might say there is really only one way to get rid of sleepiness: sleep more so your body is rested and your mind is alert. This would seem to be the one and only method of getting rid of sleepiness. But there’s more to feeling tired than getting enough sleep. Your diet and daily habits can make a big difference too.
Some studies show that out of every 100 people surveyed or studied, 25 suffer from excessive or unusual weariness. This means that they get tired during their regular daily activities, feel like they don’t have enough energy to work or simply don’t feel awake enough to do the usual things they do during the day.
If you think that your job or life in general is “boring” you will probably experience sleepiness during your waking hours. A consistent period of boredom leads to inactivity, which then leads to feeling as if you have no energy.
The perfect way to get rid of this type of sleepiness is to take on a new challenge or even change a couple of your daily habits (route taken to work, food you eat in the morning).
You may discover that your lack of energy or daytime sleepiness is caused by a real infection that is draining your body of energy and the nutrients you need. In many cases, people who suffer from clinical depression or excess anxiety react with a feeling of sleepiness or lack of interest in their lives. Sleep can even become a substitute activity used to fill time. These situations should be diagnosed by a medical expert who may prescribe anti-depressants and a change of diet.
Another reason that can be point out is metabolic problem. The rate of metabolism is associated with alertness. Those who metabolize food slower tend to feel tired and sleepy. The digestive system has to work harder to oxidize food taken during lunch.
Since metabolism is genetically dictated, the person affected cannot do anything about it. To avoid the problem of sleepiness, a sensible way is to eat less during lunch time; and compensate later in the day when hunger sets in. Washing the face with cool water may be necessary to wake the senses up. If you are working in the office, you might try walking around and converse with people for a while. Exercise can also speed up the metabolism.
Regular exercise is therefore a must for people who have slow metabolism.
Some times Sleepiness is as a result of Boring lectures. Some people yawn when they listen to a boring lecturer. But some people just yawn during the unholy after lunch hours. When people yawn in a gathering, almost everybody yawns. And the explanation to the phenomenon is that there is just a lot of carbon dioxide in a room filled with people. Yawning, according to one explanation, increases the amount of oxygen taken by a person.
While the reason may be too much carbon dioxide in the air, some suggest holding the breath for as long as you can. The longer you can hold it, the better you get rid of sleep. Or you may just leave the lecture hall and get some fresh air outside.
There may be other underlying reasons for sleepiness or drowsiness not identified above such as narcolepsy, which is an unexplained disorder. It is characterized by extreme daytime sleepiness and may cause muscle weakness.
Some Basic Steps
We mentioned sufficient sleep at the very beginning. If you are consistently sleepy during the day, start your trip back to feeling energetic by focusing on whatever it takes to get you to a good night’s sleep. Try to stick to a set pattern, even if it’s difficult at first. It’s also important to start a regular exercise program, with low-level activity at first. This will improve your overall health, of course, but it should also make you a bit more tired so you can sleep.
Tip: Don’t exercise in the evening before you go to bed.
Diet is very important in the fight to improve your energy and reduce daytime sleepiness. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains, along with lean meats should substitute for foods that are heavy on sugar, fats and carbohydrates. In addition, you shouldn’t drink coffee, tea or soft drinks that have caffeine in the afternoon or evening because these can keep you from falling asleep naturally.
One of the healthiest things you can do for your body that will also help you relax and rest is this: drink plenty of water. Our bodies need a lot of water to maintain healthy cells.
Finally, change the way you think. Don’t worry. This will carry over to the time when your mind should be slowing down. If necessary, talk to a counselor or a close friend on a regular basis to get all those racing thoughts out of your head. Then you can sleep.
