Useful Tips to Reduce Cold and Flu Symptoms Naturally

cold and flu

The average person catches between 2 to 4 colds a year and will come down with flu at least once a year. A cold of flu is our body’s natural way of healing and expelling toxicity from the body, therefore you should not fight a flu or cold with medication, instead allowing it to take its natural course.

However, there are simple ways to ease some of the symptoms of a cold or flu naturally, so that you can recover quicker.

Stay rested

Resting when you first come down with a cold or the flu helps your body direct its energy to strengthen your immune system.

Blow your nose often

Blow your nose regularly when you have cold rather than sniffling mucus back into your head. This helps clear congestion and also helps remove germs from your system.

Gargle

Gargling can moisten a sore throat and bring temporary relief. Try a teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water, four times daily. Or use a thick, viscous gargle made with honey. Steep one tablespoon of lemon juice or raspberry leaves in a cup of hot water; mix with one teaspoon of honey. Let the mixture cool to room temperature before gargling.

Drink hot liquids

Hot liquids relieve nasal congestion, help prevent dehydration, and can soothe the uncomfortably inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat.

Limit eating to only the bare minimum

When you have a cold or flu, you will naturally not feel like eating - this appears to be part of the body’s mechanism. Colds and flus represent the body’s healing processes - the body is doing something to remove toxicity from itself - and as such consuming food will take away resources and energy being used in what are the symptoms of colds and flus (which can include fever). Thus, you should limit food to a bear minimum and have plenty of fluids.

Take a steamy shower or bath

Steamy showers moisturize your nasal passages and relax you. A steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil may also help to symptoms from colds and flu. This is thought to work by thinning mucus in the respiratory tract.

Use a salve under your nose

A small dab of mentholated salve under your nose can open breathing passages and help soothe the irritated skin at the base of the nose. Menthol, eucalyptus all have mild numbing ingredients that may help relieve the pain of a nose rubbed raw.

Sleep with an extra pillow under your head

This will help with the drainage of nasal passages and will help relive the pressure in your head, which in turn will help you to breathe better and sleep better.
