Imam Khomeini (r.a) and the Majlis

imam khomeini (r.a)

Elections are the gift of Islam to our nation. Islamic rule used to be associated with hereditary caliphate. Our magnanimous Imam (r.a) taught us election-based Islamic rule. Reinterpreting the Islamic rule, he presented a form of the Islamic government that could be carried out through elections, people's participation and election of candidates – which the essence of Islam – and he managed to actualize this concept in our society.

The government's reliance on the people's votes is one of the arenas in which the people have a role. Therefore, Imam Khomeini (r.a) remained committed to this element throughout his life. He also reflected this concern in his will and recommended it to the officials and the people.

He used to emphasize the importance of the people's participation in the elections that were held from the beginning of the Revolution to his demise.

You just have to meticulously follow what the Imam (r.a) said about the Majlis. Those statements are eternal lessons. The magnanimous Imam (r.a) used to advise different groups and parties not to fight one another in the Majlis and not to vehemently oppose each other. He used to advise them to argue with one another the way the students of Islamic seminaries do and not to let their arguments reach such a great extent that the enemy would gloat.
