Iranian film festival opens in New Delhi

The festival was organized to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. A group of Iranian artists and officials attended in its opening ceremony.

Indian filmmaker and head of the council Anwar Jamal, also present at the ceremony, talked about Iran’s cinema and its famous directors who appeared after the Islamic Revolution.

He considered the development of Iran’s cinema to be a great event in the history of the world’s cinema, and said, “After the Revolution, Iranian cineastes made use of spiritual and religious themes to promote the cinema industry.”

“Iranian productions have attained great success in international festivals over the past years and great filmmakers such as Bahram Beizaii, Abbas Kiarostami and Majid Majidi have appeared. Many private and public organizations are currently active in Iran in the field of cinema,” he added.

Afterwards, the head of Iran’s Cultural Office in New Delhi spoke briefly and said, “Iran and India are both religious countries with religion playing a major role in their social and cultural lives, and this enables our two countries to collaborate in this field.”

The movies “The Color of Paradise” by Majid Majidi and “The Strange Sisters” by Kiumars Purahmad were among the works screened on the first day.
