In what circumstances blessings are changed into calamities and vice-versa?

It is narrated from Imam Sadiq (A.S) who said: Allah (SWT) granted blessings to some people but they did not give thanks for them, and those blessings changed into calamities and difficulties for them. And some people were affected by calamities, but they were patient, and those afflictions changed into blessings for them [1].
