Role of US in Iraq
Interview with Dr. Seyed Hadi Seyed Afqahi, Senior Researcher in Middle Eastern Affairs ( Part 3)

dr. seyed hadi seyed afqahi

Iraq has turned into a battle between savage terrorism and morality. The inhuman acts of the ISIL such as burning the Jordanian or Iraqi people to death, live burying of Iraqi people, or beheading of foreign journalists has exposed the real face of the terrorist group. Many analysts argue that the ISIL was initially created by the United States with the financial and logistic support of some regional countries that still continue to support them.
The US has double-track policy toward ISIL. On the one hand it bombards their position and on the other as soon as the Iraqi army gains an upper hand the US airdrops weapons packages for the terrorist group.
Dr. Afqahi maintains that when the nomadic communities in Iraq were indeed seeking return to the homeland, the United States mischievously prevented their return to the official Iraqi Army. “They wanted to sow the seeds of discord among the Sunni Muslims constituting majority of nomadic communities and the Shia Muslims supporting and standing by the Iraqi Army. Therefore, the calculations by the United States and its allies turned to be wrong. On the one hand, popular front led by the Islamic leadership in Iraq intensified fighting against terrorists and on the other hand, Al-Ebadi proposed national reconciliation to attract Iraqi nomadic communities and tribes. All these developments led to the formation of Iraqi Army.”
On the basis of Dr. Faqihi’s assessment, the leadership in Iraq and the unity between the Shias and Sunnis were the main cause of the ISIL defeat in many provinces. The same factors stopped the terrorist group’s advance towards other province in Iraq.
