History

HacettepeUniversityhasalways endeavoredtotrainenlightened, research-minded, scientificallyorientedpeopleofintegrityandgood character.
Thehistoryof HacettepeUniversitycanbe tracedbacktothe establishmentoftheInstituteofChildHealthonJuly 8, 1958,andthe inaugurationofthe HacettepeChildren'sHospital.In 1961theSchoolofHealth SciencesanditsdivisionsofNursing,MedicalTechnology,PhysicalTherapyand RehabilitationandNutritionwere opened,all centered ontheInstituteofChild Health.
OnJune 15, 1963, HacettepeUniversity,FacultyofMedicinewasestablished,andageneralteachinghospitalwasbuilt.Three monthslater HacettepeUniversitySchoolofDentistrywas established. Inthe summerof 1964,aSchoolofBasic Scienceswas opened,offeringcoursesinthe naturalsciences,socialsciencesandthehumanities.Atthetime,aIl Hacettepeteaching institutionswere affiliatedto AnkaraUniversityand groupedunderthetitle "HacettepeScience Center". HacettepeUniversitywascharteredthroughActNo. 892oftheTurkishParliamentonJuly 8, 1967. Hacettepe Institutesof HigherEducation formedthecoreof HacettepeUniversity,andthe FacultiesofMedicine,ScienceandEngineering,andSocialand Administrativescienceswere established. In 1969 HacettepeSchoolofPharmacyandHealth Administrationwere established.In 1971whit reorganization,theformer schoolsweregivenfacultystatusandthustheybecametheFacultyofDentistry,Facultyof Engineering,FacultyofPharmacyandFacultyofScience.In 1973theSchoolofTechnologywas established.In I982theformer facultieswere reorganizedastheFacultyofLetters,FacultyofEducation,FacultyofFineArts,FacultyofEconomicand Administrative SciencesandtheState Conservatorywas affiliatedto Hacettepe University.In 1984theSchoolof Healtservicesandin 1989theSchoolofSport SciencesandTechnologywere established.

Campuses

The faculties, institutesand schoolsoftheUniversityare locatedmainlyontwocampusesat Hacettepeand Beytepe,the Conservatoryand AnkaraVocationalSchoolare locatedat BahçelievlerandtheSchoolofSocialWorkis locatedat Keçiören.

Facilities:
Libraries

Therearefourmain librarieswhichholdaltogetherover 360books, periodicals, slides,videosandelectronic resources.Thelibrary resourcesarekeptonopenshelvesandareclassifiedaccordingtotheLibraryofCongressSystem.Therearealso audio-visual roomsandphotocopyfacilitiesinthe libraries. Inaddition tothesemain libraries,therearemany departmental librarieswhichholdrichcollectionsrelatedtotheirown fieldsofstudy.Themain librariesareopenonall daysoftheweek,howeveropeningandclosingtimesdifferduringsummerterm.The librariesprovideinterlibraryloanservicesandhaveaccesstotheInternet.

Computers

TheUniversity provides students,facultyandstaffwithaccesstodiversecomputing capabilitiesthroughvariousPCsites.Mostofthe departmentshavetheirownPCsitesandtherearealsoPCsitesforgeneraluseinthe libraries,faculty Laboratoriesand dormitories.

Conferenceand Exhibition Facitities:

TheUniversityhasavery stongtraditionoforganizingand hostingnationaland international conferencesandisrichinfacilities.Theconferencehalls range formsthosewhichcanhold 600 participantsto 50,fourofwhichhave simultaneoustranslationequipment.Thehallsmaybe Iistedas follows;CentralCampus, M, R, S,Thalls, BeytepeCampus; Mehmet Akif, K, Bedrettin Cömertand Altan Günalphalls.Concertsand performancesarealso organizedatMHall.TheUniversityalsohasanArtExhibitionGallery.

Grants, Scholarshipsand Awards

The University grants scholarships to students who apply to the University Students Office on the basis of the forms they fill specifying their economic circumstances.
In addition to the University Scholarships some departments and faculties also provide grants and awards. The University also grants scholarships to the university candidates related to their outstanding performance in the placement test ant their choice of the departments and faculties of Hacettepe University.
