French President Francois Hollande has called for the further enhancement of relations between his country and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to Mehr News Agency, Hollande made the call in a message to Iran’s President Hassan Rohani, conveyed by French Ambassador to Iran Bruno Foucher in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji in Tehran.

The French president congratulated Rohani on his June 14 election win and praised the Iranian nation’s ancient civilization, expressing hope that Rohani’s presidency would open a new chapter in Tehran-Paris ties.

Khaji, for his part, expressed hope that Tehran and Paris would seize the opportunity to boost bilateral relations and help promote peace and stability in the region.

On Sunday, Rohani took the oath of office in Majlis one day after being endorsed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Delegations from over 50 countries attended Rohani’s inauguration ceremony. Among the foreign dignitaries present were 10 presidents, six vice-presidents, two prime ministers and eight parliament speakers as well as several prominent former officials.
