Iran develops one of 6 anti-cancer nano-drugs

Secretary-General of the Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC) says Iran will market 6 nano-based drugs soon. He adds that Iran has produced one of 6 anti-cancer nano-drugs.During the conference, Medical Nanotechnology: Present and the Future, Saeed Sarkar told Mehr News that Iran will market 6 new nano-drugs soon. “Only 6 anti-cancer nano-durgs have been developed in the world, and we have developed one of these 6 drugs,”‌ he added.

He pointed to body of research in nanotechnology in Iran and said “currently, 29 universities offer courses in nanotechnology for MA degree, some of them being in Medicine, and 14 universities provide PhD courses in different nano-based strands.”‌

“In human resource development, we are now among world’s 4 top countries,”‌ he asserted.

Sarkar also said that 95 university and institutions are active in nanotechnology field, “these bodies have been working on 5 research projects in nanotechnology in the country, and more than 12,000 MA and PhD dissertations have been approved, with Health sector having the lion’s share.”‌

He pointed to the increase in the number of papers published in prestigious journal s of nanotechnology, adding that “in 2000, Iran was 59th in world ranking, 6th in Islamic world ranking. In 2011, Iran has publishing 8 papers daily, and we predict that 3,800 papers are published in 2012.”‌
