Life provisions: Concern about sustenance

life

Sustenance is one of the basic necessities of human life. Therefore, fear of future and how to provide provisions is a public concern. This concern would be useful if it is at a moderate level, but if it increases excessively, it might lead to stress and distress and will ultimately undermine the life satisfaction.

Imam Ali (A.S) maintains that poverty ruins people’s life.

God has guaranteed the provisions of human beings. Man’s sustenance is provided by God who has guaranteed that under any circumstances, he would provide man’s provisions. The Provider of provisions is he who owns creation and He who guarantees it is the Omnipotent and Almighty. The Holy Qur’an states: “Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.”‌

When man knows his provisions are in the hands of the Possessor of power, he feels confident and relaxed. No creature exists on the earth except God provides his or her or its provisions. Perhaps, there are creatures which cannot gain their own provisions and God gives them provisions. The same God provides us with provisions. Each and every motile has its own provisions. Look at ant with its small body (which is extremely small) has its own guaranteed provisions and based on its bodily features receives its provisions. Gracious God is aware of all creatures. He does not deprive them of their provisions, even if they are in the heart of a barren black rock or between huge rocks. Or look at the birds such as crow, eagle, pigeon and ostrich.  God has guaranteed their provisions. These useful points indicate that there is no need to be worried about provisions. In this regard, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), addressing Ibn Masoud, said:

“You, Ibn Masoud, don’t be concerned about provisions; since the Almighty God says: “there will be no motile on earth except that its provisions are provided by God”‌ and also says: “your provisions and what is promised to you are guaranteed.”‌
