Ghadir Al-Khumm, the Starting Point for Shi'a and Sunni Unity: part 3

imam ali (a.s)

Firstly, I would like to congratulate the readers on the auspicious occasion of Eid Al-Ghadir. Before starting the main part, I would like to draw the readers' attention to some points:

1. Among all the Islamic Feasts (Eids), only one is introduced as the "Eid Allah al- Akbar" (the Great Divine Feast) and it is the auspicious Eid of Al-Ghadir Khumm.

2. There are two kinds of evidences with the same reliability proving Vilayat of Imam Ali. The first group of evidences proves his Vilayat directly like the Hadith of al-Ghadir Khumm. The other group of evidences are the ones stating that those who diverted the path of Islam after Holy Prophet Muhammad's departure can never be the heir and successor of the infallible Prophet. It is clear that when two persons are candidates for the succession, if one of them is ineligible based on some strong reasons, the other one will be eligible for succession.

After this brief introduction, I'd like to present two reasons for the Vilayat of the Commander of the Faithful. In this article, only renowned scholars of Ahl-ul-Bayt are quoted and we also adhere to some bright events which are unanimously accepted by the Muslims. Following Allamah Askari, we use both "school of caliphs" and "Ahl-ul-Bayt school".

I should mention that nobody has doubt in separation of some groups from Ali Ibn Abi Talib (A.S) and hurting him after the departure of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH); however, it depends on how does a Shi’a or a Sunni judge based on his common sense and fair nature. Especially if they want to judge on the basis of the Holy Book, that is, the Qur’an, for instance, on the basis of Surah Al-Ahzab, Verse 57.
