pakistanis hold fresh against blasphemous film

Speakers at a conference organized by a religious group on October 5 urged the United States to take strict action against makers of a sacrilegious film. The Shuhada-e-Islam and Istehkam-e-Pakistan conference, which was organized by Ahle-e-Sunnat Wal-Jamat (ASWJ) at Aabpara, was attended by hundreds of activists of ASWJ. Participants were holding flags and banners inscribed with anti-U.S. slogans. They chanted slogans against the U.S. and the anti-Islam filmmaker.

Ameer of ASWJ Maulana Muhammad Ahmed Ludhanvi, Muhmmad Azam Muavia, Hafiz Hussain Ahmad of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and Maulana Samiul Haq, the chief of his own faction of the JUI, and other religious leaders spoke on the occasion.

They urged America to take exemplary action against the makers of the anti-Islam film and all people connected with the movie. The also insisted that the international community should realize that Muslims were not terrorists. "Muslims are a peaceful people and want peace in the world."

Speakers said,: "We are ready to sacrifice our lives for spreading Islam. A number of people have sacrificed their lives, but we are still peaceful and patient."

Maulana Muhammad Ahmed Ludhianvi stressed the need for making a law at international level to criminalize blasphemy across the world. Urging the government to sever diplomatic relations with the U.S. until it announces death sentence for the filmmaker, he said that the film had injured the feelings of "billions of Muslims".

Earlier, Shams Rehman Muavia, a top ASWJ leader, and others were allowed by the district administration to present their resolution condemning the movie to the U.S. ambassador in Pakistan. The resolution highlighted the Muslims' reverence for the Holy Prophet and said that he was the most honorable personality without any dispute, "not only for the Muslims but also for people belonging to different religions and nations".
