Iran's president congratulates Muslims on Ramadhan

iran’s president mahmoud ahmadinejad

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has congratulated the world’s Muslim leaders on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadhan and called for more unity in the Islamic world.

According to IRIB, in separate letters to the world’s Muslim leaders and Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, President Ahmadinejad expressed hope that during Ramadhan, the world would witness “friendship and brotherhood among nations particularly Muslim nations, an end to oppression and discrimination, and the promotion of lasting peace and security.”‌

He also wished happiness and prosperity for all Muslim governments and people around the world.

Ramadhan is the ninth month on the Islamic calendar. Muslims fast from dawn to dusk during the month, and refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured.

Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about faith, spirituality, self-accountability and self-restraint.

Muslims believe Ramadhan to be an auspicious month for the revelations of God to humankind. It is also the month in which the first verses of the holy Qur'an were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
