634 convert to Islam in Turkey
The Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs has announced that 634 people have converted to Islam over the past year, Press TV reports.
Figures released by the Turkish institution show that the converts come from different religions, mainly Christianity, Press TV’s Ankara correspondent reported on Monday.
Women make up 467 of these people.
About 25 percent of those who have converted to Islam in Turkey have been Germans. Americans, French and British nationals are also among the converts.
Islam is the dominant religion in Turkey with over 95 percent of the population as Muslims. Other religions include various Christian denominations such as Roman Catholics and Protestants.
