7 killed, 10 injured in Iraq violence

security forces gather at the site of an explosion in iraq.

At least seven people, including three soldiers, have been killed and 10 others wounded in separate incidents of violence in different parts of Iraq, security officials say.

Police said a bomb explosion in a cafe on Saturday left two people dead and eight others injured in a village north of the city of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) northeast of Baghdad.

In a separate incident, gunmen opened fire at an Iraqi army checkpoint, killing three soldiers and wounding two civilians in Baghdad’s northeastern Palestine Street, an Iraqi interior ministry source told Reuters.

In Baghdad’s eastern Zayouna district, at least one policeman was also killed in an attack on an Iraqi police checkpoint.

The imam of a mosque was also shot dead near a mosque in Baghdad’s southeastern Zaafaraniya district late on Friday, according to the police.

Daily bombing attacks, roadside bombs, and shootings have been common in the war-torn country since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq. Civilians and security forces are killed and wounded on an almost daily basis.
