'Islamic awakening to free Palestine'

senior iranian commander brigadier general mohammad-reza naqdi

The new wave of Islamic awakening in the Middle East and North Africa will lead to the liberation of Palestinian lands from Israeli occupation, a senior Iranian commander says.

The recent movements are preludes to the fulfillment of the promise of “conquest of Palestine,” by the late founder of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, IRNA cited Brigadier General Muhammad-Reza Naqdi as saying at a conference on Saturday.

“The first step” that the Muslim nations in the Middle East and North Africa will take is the 'complete removal of Israel from the Palestinian lands, Naqdi went on to say.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been expelled from their homeland to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip as well as countries in the region and worldwide since the 1948 Israeli occupation.

Consequently, Israel has encouraged the immigration of Jews from all over the world to the occupied Palestinian lands.

The senior Iranian commander also noted that Muslim nations and freedom fighters across the world regard Iran as their “pioneer” and cautioned the Iranian nation against any move that may demotivate the recent popular movements.

In recent months, a wave of revolutions and anti-government uprisings has swept the Arab world.

In January, a revolution in Tunisia ended the 23-year ruling of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

In February, another revolution led to the ouster of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak after three decades of authoritarian rule.

Other revolutions have erupted in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, while more anti-government upheavals have swept Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman and Algeria.

Meanwhile, more Arab countries are expected to witness similar revolts.
