Carrot eaters look more attractive

vegetables and fruits

Individuals who are used to eating highly colored vegetables and fruits have a more colorful skin and therefore look more healthy and attractive, a British study says.

Previous studies have reported various health benefits of fruits and vegetables, including the fact that following a diet rich in such products can lower the risk of heart disease and cancer.

The new study, however, seems to have a more attractive message. It suggests that "just two months of increased consumption" of highly colored vegetables and fruits "could produce visible results" in beauty of the skin.

St. Andrews and Bristol university researchers reported that men and women whose skin has a yellow glow were more likely to be considered as healthy and attractive.

According to the study that will be published in the Evolution and Human Behaviour in March, the yellow pigments called carotenoids, found in certain fruit and vegetables, play a key role in giving the skin a yellow hue.

The findings, which revealed that fruit and vegetables are more effective in boosting beauty than improving health, could encourage youngsters to eat more of these products, said Ian Stephen, study’s co-author.
