The first phase of Khorram Abad’s second gas pipeline in the western province of Lorestan officially came on stream on Saturday.

The Iranian Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi and the National Iranian Gas Company’s managing director Javad Owji attended the opening ceremony, the Mehr News Agency reported.

The 123-kilometer long pipeline was implemented over the course of four years at the cost of 1,550 billion rials (some $155 million).

The second phase of the pipeline is currently over 85 percent complete. Another 250 billion rials (some $25 million) will be invested in the project and it is estimated that the second phase will also come on stream by the end of current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2011).
