Commander: Iranian Forces Ready for Maximum Confrontation with Enemies

Iran"s military forces will confront any enemy attack on the country with maximum power, a senior Iranian military commander stressed.

"The Army is always on the alert like the other (Iranian) military forces. And the vigilance and insight of the forces defuse even the smallest plots of the arrogant states," Lieutenant Commander of the Army"s Operational Headquarters in Northwestern Iran, General Seyed Reza Mousavi, said in an interview with FNA in the city of Orumiyeh on Sunday.

The commander further stated that Iran"s advancements in different fields and the achievements made by Iranian youths in the post-revolution era have angered enemies and sparked their furious and warmongering remarks against Iran.

He also pointed out that the Iranian militaries" spirit of martyrdom-seeking, dedication and devotion has provided the country with a power of deterrence against enemies.

The remarks by the Iranian commander came after the US President Barack Obama, in an interview with The New York Times, threatened Iran and North Koran with nuclear weapons.

The US administration earlier this month released its policy document known as "Nuclear Posture Review", in which the administration called a manifesto "achieving substantial further nuclear force reductions".

Although it explicitly states that all non-nuclear weapons states are immune from nuclear attack, the statement reserves a so-called right for the US to use nuclear weapons against countries like Iran and North Korea, labeled as "outliers" in the paper.

In response, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out at Obama for his threatening remarks against Iran, and said Obama"s comments indicated his lack of experience.

Also Last Sunday, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei reiterated that Obama"s remarks showed the true nature of the policies pursued by Washington.

"This statement is very strange and the world should not neglect it because the head of a state poses the threat of an atomic attack (against another state) in the 21st century which is the century of claims about support for human rights and campaign against terrorism," Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing a number of senior military commanders from the Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) last week.
