The Sufferings of Imam Ali after the Prophet's demise:

 The battle of Seffeyn (2)

imam ali

During that battle, we had the banner of the Prophet with which God had always demolished the dark forces with it, and Moaviye had the banner which had belonged to his father, and which, in all wars, had been raised against our Prophet and the troop of Islam.

Yes! death was so near Moaviye and he didn’t know what to do to save his life, so he just sat on his horse to escape from the battle, but in the last moment, his wicked friend: Amro proposed to their soldiers that each put on a Holy Quran on their spears and called the people around to do exactly as the Quran had told and commanded!

Amro told Moaviye that the son of Abu Taleb and his followers were very wise and strong, he said: “Before the war, they had wanted you to do according to the Holy Quran, but they didn’t receive any response from you, but if you do it now, they will accept your offer.”

So when Moaviye saw that he hadn’t any way out, either during the war or for any escape, he ordered his troop to put the Holy Qurans on their spears, and he thought that the best thing was to invite the people to do exactly as the Holy Quran. Said!

On that day, which was full of various incidents, all my soldiers accepted the invitation of Moaviye, and he tricked them all, but a small group who were my true followers, remained close by me.

As a matter of fact, I insisted and told them repeatedly that it was only a trick by Moaviye and Amro Ass that they shouldn’t listen to their empty words, but the strange thing was that my own soldiers insisted on willing to accept their lies...!

I myself heard that some of them say: “If Ali doesn’t accept Moaviye’s offer, we will have a bad end, just like Osman, so we will be forced to submit Ali to Moaviye…

God be my witness that I had tried very hard to persuade them to listen to my orders, and let me do what was best, but they continually rejected my orders; they didn’t even give me a short break so as to think; apart from some of my family members.

I swear to God that I didn’t fear anything, but I was afraid for the lives of my two sons Hassan and Hussein, (peace be upon them!), I was afraid that of the lineage of the Prophet shall not be able to survive, because they were the real treasures of his blood!

I was also afraid for the lives of Abdullah Ibn jafar and Muhammad Ibn Hanafiye, because both of them were there because of me, and they wanted to be always near me.

So, for once again, I used my patience in regard with their wrong choice.

But after we had put away our naked blades, all of them started to judge me and put away the Holy Qurans and offered a choice between choosing me or Moaviye.

I myself never believed that such a thing would happen and I didn’t want people going against God’s will, because it was wrong, but what was I supposed to? Between my foolish friends and Moaviye, neither of them, accepted anything else.

When I wanted to choose one of my family members such as Ibne Abbas or a man that had enough knowledge about God, religion, the Prophet and me to negotiate, someone that I could trust him someone like Malik Ashtar, the son of Hind didn’t accept it alas.

Moaviye was full of arrogance, so he didn’t accept my words , and the reason for his pride was the help that my foolish soldiers had given to him unknowingly. Anyway when I saw that it was an awful judgment against me and Islam, I prayed to God and let them go away with their wrongdoings.

They chose a man called Abu Moosa Ash?ari who had been lured with many gifts, by Amro himself, and when everybody heard about it, that man didn’t know how to hide his embarrassing action.

The moaning of the Jewish man while he was crying made the people around him look at him strangely. He had read in the holy books of Moses about the martyrdom of the last successor of the last Prophet, so he knew that according to the prophesies that day was near.
