soldier

After successful accomplishment of Samen-al-aemmeh operation in the west of Karun River by Iranian forces which led to raising Abadan's siege, it was in fact accounted as the first phase of Khorramshahr liberation operation. Its success exploitation was examined to be applied in Khorramshahr, Bostan and west of Dezful regions, but regarding Bostan region features, primary attempt was allotted to Bostan. Therefore, preliminary plan already developed in June, 1981 was appended to the supplementary orders and issued on August 17th, 1981.

Martyrdom of the head of Army joint staff major general Fallahi, defense minister, major general Namjoo, commander of Air Force, major general Fakouri, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps deputy commander Kolahdouz who was previously one of the army brave officers appointed to organize R.G.C made a  great change in army high commanding officials. Following the appointment of martyr Seyyed Shirazi as army commander, the priority of planning of would be operations was given respectively to west of Dezful and west of Susangerd axes and the ground was prepared for the extensive participation of popular forces and Revolutionary Guard Corps and the creation of integrity among the armed Forces which brought about optimum opportunity for combined Forces operations. But Iranian army command and Staff College experts who had been employed in foremost headquarter by the new commander of army ground force preferred the operation in the west of Susangerd and the major rationale behind this preference was easy accessibility to objectives by using less man power, Bostan seizure, reaching the border and economy of force after capturing Bostan because of Mishdaq heights, north sandy lands and Hur-al-Azim marsh in the south. Furthermore, international reflection, separation between Iraqi forces situated on the north and south of Bostan and removing Ahwaz and Susangerd axis threat were among other privileges of this operation. Necessary changes and replacements were made such as replacing of second brigade of 16th division with 55th airborne brigade and returning of Dezful second brigade from Haft-Tappeh to Susangerd and so on. Ultimately a plane prepared jointly with collaboration of Army and Islami Revolutionary Gourd Corps was brought into Force at night on November 29th, 1981 and after eight days of prolonged and sever battle, the operation terminated successfully and the second large operation to repel the enemy occurred. For the first time IRGC units operated in organized brigade framework and performed the assigned missions properly.

Result:

- Bostan city and 600 square kilometers from Islamic Iran’s territory was librated.

-15000 people were either killed or wounded and 546 others were taken captive.

-200 tanks and personnel carriers, 200 vehicles were destroyed.

-A large number of tanks and personnel carriers, vehicles, engineering devices, equipment and rifles were confiscated by Islam forces.
